My son and I watched The Green Mile with Tom Hanks last night. It was the twentieth time I had watched it, but the first for him. It sparked so many great discussions. He would ask, "Is John Coffey an angel?" and "Where did he get his healing power?" We talked about Jesus and his power to heal. We talked about how good men, Tom Hanks and the good guards, were helping those on death row, who were at death's door, and thus God's judgement. This free flowing creative rap led us to talking about how God made the universe and why he allowed people to do bad things, "The killing of the two young girls."
We talked about how God was eternal. That He first made time and space like the frame of a painting. Then he created the universe and all that is in it within the frame. Now within that creation was the eternal garden. Yes there is blood, sweat, and tears that pour into the soil. Yes there is worms, dirt, and manure that lay below the surface. But when the sun(son) shines and the water (spirit) pours, from this garden grows men and women who freely chose to love God and seek his son.
If you were on the Green Mile today. And tomorrow you were to face "Old sparky" would you be ready to meet your creator?
